INSTRUCTOR: Casey Street, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Casey Street, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, is currently working as a family nurse practitioner in the maternal-fetal medicine clinic at WVU Medicine. She graduated from West Virginia University with a BSN in 2008 and an MSN in 2012. She worked in rural primary care practices in Wetzel, Tyler, and Marion counties in West Virginia from 2012-2016 and in urgent care from 2016-2017. Casey started working in the maternal-fetal medicine clinic in 2017; she has a special interest in caring for pregnant patients with diabetes, hypertensive disorders, obesity, and cardiovascular conditions. In her spare time, Casey enjoys reading, running, and watching her daughters play softball and volleyball. She lives in Morgantown with her husband, Randy, and their 3 daughters.

Learning Outcomes

1. List screening methods for gestational diabetes and how to interpret results

2. Discuss the physiology of gestational diabetes

3. Describe potential maternal and fetal risks of gestational diabetes

4. Provide educational material to patients about blood glucose monitoring, goal blood glucose values, dietary recommendations, and options for medication therapy

5. Formulate a plan for care for patients with gestational diabetes, including medication management
