Capturing the statewide incidence of neonatal abstinence syndrome in real time: the West Virginia experience
West Virginia University Assistant Professor, Amna Umer, MPH, PhD and colleagues published an article in the prestigious peer-reviewed medical journal, Pediatrics. Their team captured the statewide incidence of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) in West Virginia using the surveillance tool, Project WATCH. They found that the annual incidence of NAS was 51.3 per 1,000 live births per year for all births and 50.6 per 1,000 live births per year for WV residents only.
