Trauma-Informed Care for the Perinatal Provider: A Workshop to Move Us From Individual Trauma-Awareness to a Trauma-Responsive and Healing Centered System
Tuesday, December 2, 2025 – 8:00 am–12:00 pm
Erickson Alumni Center,
Morgantown, WV
Target Audience:
Physicians, nurses, midwives, nurse practitioners, behavioral health providers, and those who may be caring for pregnant and postpartum people.
Prerequisite:
Attended or viewed Dr. Vogel’s presentation on Friday of the 2025 WV Perinatal Summit on The Intersection of Psychological Trauma and Childbirth.
There are 100 seats available for this workshop. Priority registration will be given to those who attended Dr. Vogel’s presentation until EOD November 16th. Those who did not attend in person but would like to attend the workshop will be placed on a waitlist and notified when registration opens on November 17th.
Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Understand how previous traumatic experiences predispose individuals to re-traumatization during the childbirth period and recognize specific antepartum risk factors associated with postpartum mental health conditions.
- Identify intrapartum traumatic events that increase the risk for the development of postpartum depression, anxiety, and PTSD and recognize the role of the obstetric provider in preventing trauma.
- Understand the significant consequences of a traumatic birth on the mother, the mother-baby dyad, the child, and society.
- Implement trauma-informed principles on the labor and delivery units to improve maternal health outcomes.
