This report summarizes an effort undertaken in the state of West Virginia to reduce the number of elective deliveries prior to 39 weeks gestation. These deliveries were found to represent a significant percentage of the overall deliveries in the state and present both a clinical and economic issue due to the increased risk for maternal and neonatal complications that accompany them.
